Precision CNC Machining

Precision Machining of Aerospace Bushings to Your Drawing

Aerospace bushings give a pivot a bearing surface, protect a housing bore from wear and set the spacing between parts. AeroCNCParts, a machining division of DEK, turns and grinds sleeve, flanged, shouldered, spacer and split bushings to your drawing.

Each part follows the bore, outside diameter and flange geometry on your print, from first article through low-volume and repeat batches, with lot traceability and material certificates on request. Bushings belong to our structural support components family.

Materials for Aerospace Bushings

Chosen for load, wear and corrosion: stainless steel for loaded pivots, titanium for composite assemblies, plastics for light loads.

17-4PH / 15-5PH stainless 316 stainless Ti-6Al-4V Inconel 718 PEEK
Finishes for Bushings

Finishes are applied per the drawing's callout, and finish thickness is allowed for in the machined size.

  • Passivation (AMS 2700): applied to stainless steel bushings per the drawing’s callout.
  • Type II anodizing (MIL-A-8625): applied to aluminum spacers where the drawing calls it out.
  • Type III anodizing (MIL-A-8625): hard anodizing on aluminum spacers, with thickness allowed for in the machined size.
Applications

Types of aerospace bushings we machine

Each type is turned to your drawing, not picked from a catalog. By default we machine the metal body for your liner or grease-lubricated design, with grease grooves or cross-holes where the drawing shows them.

  • Plain / Sleeve Bushings

Controlled bore and outside diameter, for pivot pins, clevis and lug bores.

  • Flanged Bushings

A flange locates it axially, for hinges, linkages and bracket bores.

  • Shouldered / Stepped Bushings

Two or more diameters, for stepped housings and mixed press and slip fits.

  • Spacer Bushings

Fixed length between two parts, often bolt-clamped, in mounts, cabin hardware.

  • Split / Slotted Bushings

Slit lengthwise for installation or preload; retrofit into existing bores.

Capabilities

Bushing tolerances, fits and surface finish

The drawing controls bore and outside diameter size and roundness, their concentricity, flange face perpendicularity, bore finish and, on spacers, length and parallel faces. We check them with bore gauges and micrometers; FAI and dimensional reports on request.

Small, slender bushings run on Swiss CNC turning, larger ones on CNC turning centers; bores that need finer size or finish go to precision grinding. Turning bore and OD in one clamping keeps them concentric.

Process & Quality

DFM review: datums, load paths and cost-driving features checked before we cut.
CAM and fixturing: toolpaths planned so bores and faces share one datum scheme.
In-process checks: probing and sampling keep critical features on target.
First article and CMM: FAI and CMM reports supplied on request.
Traceability: heat or lot numbers and finishing records tied to each batch.

Where aerospace bushings are used

  • Hinge Blocks

Flight-control, door and hatch hinges run on bushings.

  • Equipment Mount Blocks

Spacer bushings set stack height under bolt preload.

  • Seat and Interior Pivots

Armrests, tray tables and recline pivots use bushings.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers on bushing materials, spacer versus flanged designs, bore tolerances, small batches and lined bushings.

What materials are used for aerospace bushings?
Stainless steels such as 17-4PH, titanium, Inconel, aluminum-nickel bronze and engineering plastics for light loads. The choice depends on load, wear and corrosion.
What is the difference between a spacer bushing and a flanged bushing?
A spacer bushing sets a fixed distance between two parts. A flanged bushing has a shoulder that locates it axially in its housing.
What tolerances can you hold on bushing bores?
Typically ±0.01 mm to ±0.005 mm (±0.0004 in to ±0.0002 in), depending on size and material. Tighter bores can be finish-ground.
Do you make bushings from customer drawings in small quantities?
Yes, small batches and repeat orders to your drawing.
Can you supply self-lubricating lined bushings?
We machine bushings for your liner or grease-lubricated design.

Send your drawing and 3D model for a quote: an engineer reviews it before machining, NDAs are signed on request, and repeat batches follow the same inspection plan.
